AUSTRALIAN POETS IN HINDI TRANSLATION – AND TRANSLATION AS YOGIC TRANSFORMATION?

Just out on the Indian book market is a volume called MEHRAAB (THE ARCH).
TRANSLATIONS OF SELECTED POEMS OF 4 CANBERRA POETS
(Ajmer: A.R.A.W.LII Publications, 2008)
consisting of translations into Hindi, done by the hand of
Anuraag Sharma, of selected works of four
Australian poets:

Alan Gould, Geoff Page, Mark O’Connor and the
ndian-Australian (currently Fiji-resident) Satendra Nandan.
**

The book also contains an interesting preface (pp. 7-9) in which
Anuraag Sharma reflects on translation, and comments (p. 7):
‘The art of translation is a … yogic "kriya" which involves the
transmigration of one’s soul into the body of the original poet / author’ – an image
(a kriya is a yogic technique) indeed
worth reflecting on by all translators!!
