LITERATURA INDIA PARA NIÑ@S: TRADUCIDO AL CASTELLANO, "VACACIONES EN EL
HIMALAYA" DE VANDANA SINGH
La literatura india de hoy no es sólo para adultos, y para recordárnoslo
acaba de salir, traducida al castellano, la novela breve VACACIONES EN EL
HIMALAYA (título original: YOUNGUNCLE IN THE HIMALAYAS), de Vandana Singh,
autora residente en EE UU que ya ha publicado en el mercado indio, con
éxito, varios libros para niñ@s en lengua inglesa.
Este libro se recomienda para jóvenes lectoras y lectores de 8 años en
adelante. Es una historia que l@s llevará a la India, a un animado viaje
por el Himalaya, y que, con su fuerte vertiente ecologista, l@s ayudará a
comprender la importancia de conservar los bosques. Todo comienza un mes de
octubre muy caluroso, tanto que Tiojoven (Younguncle), su sobrino Ravi y
sus sobrinas Sarita y Bebé acompañan a Hermano Mayor y a Cuñada para ir al
Himalaya de vacaciones. Cuando llegan al lúgubre y misterioso Hotel
Pino-Lejano, pronto se dan cuenta de que sus vacaciones no van a ser muy
tranquilas. Allí se encontrarán con fantasmas, deshonestos hombres de
negocios, un cartero que tiene doscientos años, y muchos otros personajes
inolvidables.
La traducción al castellano es obra de Dora Sales Salvador, que ya se ha
distinguido con sus versiones anteriores de Vikram Chandra y Manju Kapur y
cuya traducción de SACRED GAMES (JUEGOS SAGRADOS) saldrá próximamente en el
mercado del Estado español.

INDIAN LITERATURE FOR CHILDREN: NEW SPANISH TRANSLATION OF "YOUNGUNCLE IN
THE HIMALAYAS" BY VANDANA SINGH
The Indian literature of today is not just for adults, and to remind us of
that fact we have a brand-new translation into Spanish of the short novel
YOUNGUNCLE IN THE HIMALAYAS (translated as VACACIONES EN EL HIMALAYA, i.e.
ON HOLIDAY IN THE HIMALAYAS), by Vandana Singh, a US-resident writer who
has successfully published a number of children’s books in English on the
Indian market.
This book is suitable for young readers aged 8 upwards. It will take them
to India and an eventful journey to the Himalayas. It has a strong
ecological message and will help them understand the importance of
preserving the forests. The story begins one warm October when Younguncle,
his nephew Ravi and his nieces Sarita and Bebé accompany their older
relatives on a Himalayan vacation. When they arrive at their mysterious and
melancholy hotel, they soon realise that this will not exactly be a quiet
holiday. They will meet ghosts, shady businessmen, a postman 200 years old,
and many other unforgettable characters.
The Spanish translation is the work of Dora Sales Salvador, who has earlier
distinguished herself with her versions of Vikram Chandra and Manju Kapur,
and whose translation of Chandra’s SACRED GAMES (JUEGOS SAGRADOS) will be
out soon on the Spanish market.
